Description

Technology, Inquiry, Data, Engineering & Science – TIDES is a hands-on class dives into a broad range of integrated topics projects.  Students will take on tasks that give them higher level skills and expose them to projects and labs that require a bit more maturity of mind and body.  This secular but inclusive semester course is offered in Naperville with in-person class meetings once/week for 1.5 hours each.

Upper Elementary TIDES (Technology, Inquiry, Data, Engineering & Science)

Students meet on (choose one – both days are identical):

  • Wednesdays, 12:30pm – 2pm
  • Thursdays, 12:30pm – 2pm

Registration is for Spring 2025 semester-long course (12 weeks starting the week of Jan. 27th)

Required Materials
  • Pencil bag with
    • 2-3 regular pencils
    • package of colored pencils (at minimum, red, yellow, green, blue & brown)
    • covered pencil sharpener (blade should not be exposed)

All additional materials for this class will be supplied

Time required outside of class
Students tend not to have “homework” for this class.
Is This Level a Good Fit for My Child?
Students MUST be able to participate meaningfully and appropriately in a group setting (taking turns, treating others with respect/kindness, etc.).  Supplies assume a specific number of small groups.  Our classes are part discussion/explanation to open and then “doing things”.

Students must be able to read and write at an age-appropriate level for this course.  Spelling does not have to be perfect at this point as long as their work can be read phonetically.

Parent Considerations
Families that want to participate in Upper Elementary Junior Great Books in the mornings will have a lunch break between the morning and afternoon sessions

This is a course that will push children to investigate and explore.  As a result, parents need to be prepared for students to want to go “off course”.
