Upper Elementary Science – Mad Scientists
Class is 60 minutes long on Wednesdays, 11:00am – noon
Registration is either for Fall 2026 semester-long course (13 weeks) or full year (26 weeks)
This exciting class for students aged 8-10/11 will help prepare our older elementary students for middle school science and build the foundational science skills of lab safety, scientific method, experimental design and related skills as we learn how to create experiments to answer our questions about the world and use some of the lab equipment necessary (and identify lots more lab equipment!)
Required Materials
- Small 3-ring binder (1″ to 1-1/2″)
- Pencil bag with
- 2-3 regular pencils
- covered pencil sharpener (blade should not be exposed)

Students will sometimes have to be outside or observing the outdoors, or doing related tasks from class for approximately 30 minutes/week.
Is This Level a Good Fit for My Child? Parent Considerations
Students must be able to read and write at an age-appropriate level for this course. Spelling does not have to be perfect at this point as long as their work can be read phonetically.
This is a course that will includes the handling of lab equipment. If you have a child unable to respond to redirection when temptation is too great, it may be wise to delay participation a little longer.
