Course Content
Fall semester Theater Arts is broken up into units of monologues, scene study, and mainstage production. Each unit is paired with an accompanying aspect of technical design (lights, sound, set, props, and costumes) and management (directing, stage management). There will be a showcase production at the end of each unit.
The primary life skill learned through Theater Arts is decision making. Students will also be better prepared to take pride in their creative thinking, and apply themselves to any area of study with confidence.
Required Materials
Theater Arts is a pencil and paper class. Students will be required to mark up their scripts, write in the margins, etc. Optional materials include a highlighter and 3-ring binder for their scripts.
Time Required Outside of Class and Transcriptable Time
Amount of time will depend on your student’s speed/skill with the content of the week. Students can expect up to four hours of work required outside of class. The majority of this time encompasses memorization and meaningful decision making. This course has pre-scheduled Asynchronous Learning days on Oct. 12, 206, Jan. 18, 2027 and Feb. 15, 2027; but does not have additional assigned work during the other breaks & pauses.
Combined with our live class time, this is a total of 3-1/2 to 5-1/2 hours/week for a course total of 56-88 hours per semester (or 112-176 hours per full year). This equates to one half credit per semester of elective study in Fine Arts using the Carnegie unit methodology (or one full credit for the full school year)
