Folk Tale Fiesta – Exploring Magical Worlds

This interdisciplinary course will foster students’ creativity, critical thinking, and cultural awareness as they compare and contrast folk tales from various cultures and express their understanding through artistic expression and hands-on projects.

Throughout the course, students will delve into a diverse range of folk tales from different regions around the world. By exploring these stories, students will develop an appreciation for the similarities and differences in cultural values, beliefs, and traditions across the globe.

In addition to analyzing the narratives, students will participate in interactive discussions, collaborative activities, and multimedia presentations to deepen their understanding of each folk tale’s cultural context. Through these activities, students will sharpen their skills in communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Join us as we enter the magical realms of legend and discover what we can learn about the past as well as about our own lives today.

Students should bring a small, nut-free snack (can be eaten in 5-10 minutes) and a water bottle.  All other materials for this class will be supplied!

Students who are staying for afternoon Artistic Adventures should bring a nut-free lunch to eat.  Lunch is supervised.

There may be times where students are given an OPTION to do something at home and bring in found treasures from time between classes, but there is no “homework” that is required for this course/level.

Students MUST be able to participate meaningfully and appropriately in a group setting (taking turns, treating others with respect/kindness, etc.).  Students will spend some time working in small groups and some time working individually.  Our classes are part discussion/explanation to open and then “doing things”.  Sometimes our activities are at a desk and sometimes it means exploring (which can mean being on hands and knees!).
